It was a great day out at the Irvine Valley College fields as Irvine City inflicted a defeat on league leaders California United nee Irvine United. This weekend, the only signs of Winter were in the center of another great Irvine City performance. A derby day not filled with the tension of previous encounters, perhaps a more expectant aura was the mood on the City sidelines. Playing without Jason Lill or Jon Jones in the middle, the City team was bouyed by the presence of striker Mark Richardson, and sweeper Bill Dow on the team sheet. Both players came through late fitness tests and both failed to finish the game. Maybe the fitness tests need to be more difficult, but with next weeks bye in mind, it was encouraging to see them both come off under their own power. Morita put in another good performance but even he had a trip to the chiropractor to get himself cleared and would have been missed had he not been able to play. more
