Irvine City FC 1 (0) v Cal Utd 0 (0)

Brown

89 mins of chances followed by 1 moment of class. City broke from the back and a long crossfield ball from Murphy on the right found Brown on the left. A few touches later he had cut back and slotted the ball home. 1-0 was the final but it could have been so much more was it not for a combination of the Cal United keeper and poor Irvine City finishing. Perhaps the best chance came on the hour as Briscoe hit an inch perfect cross onto the head of Defriend, who managed to put the ball out of range of the keeper but not out of range of the fans in Row Z. After much persuading we did manage to get the ball back and were able to continue. The City wide players, Smith, Brown, Defriend and Nick put in a fantastic amount of effort patrolling the flanks. Only playing one game in the weekend may have helped Nick have his most solid game in a City shirt. Oh wait he was wearing his own shirt. And Smith was fearless in his tackles. United seemed out of gas at the end. Perhaps it was all used up driving the 6MPG Hummer on the city streets. more
