ICFC always knew this would be a difficult game losing so many key players prior to the game but just managing to field 11 players. This was confounded when Dow was lost for 10 mins with an ankle injury yet managing to play on for the rest of the game. Steve Ross continued his excellent record at penalty saving when the score was tied 0-0 when Douglas was accused of handling the ball, in reality shielding his chest and DeFriend and Brown had a couple of chances that the Real Sociedad keeper managed to keep out. Going in at 2-0 down at half time Lill was ferried off to hospital with a ankle wound sustained during the first 5 mins of the first half requiring stitches forcing ICFC to play with 9 fully fit outfield players. 4-0 for Real Sociedad was the final score in what was a tough game for Irvine .
